A video shared on X claims to show a cat in Rafah.

Verdict: False

The video is from Saudi Arabia, not Rafah, Gaza. It was taken in 2023.

Fact Check:

The Israel Defense Forces raided a “combat complex,” claiming to have killed several gunmen and seizing weapons, according to the Times of Israel. These weapons include mortars and RPGs, the outlet reported.

Social media users are claiming to show a cat being rescued from a home in Rafah. One user wrote, “MIRACLE | RAFAH.”

This claim is false. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the video is from Saudi Arabia. It was posted to TikTok in May 2023.

BBC Verify reporter Shayan Sardarizadeh also debunked the claim in a June 3 X post.

“This viral video, viewed over 6 million times, is not from Rafah and is unrelated to the current Israel-Gaza war. The video went viral on TikTok in May 2023, showing a cat survive a house fire in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia,” Sardarizadeh tweeted.
