Verdict: False
This claim is baseless.
Fact Check:
Republican Sen. Randy Fine is trying to ban some flags from being displayed on certain buildings in Florida, according to CBS News. The bill is looking to prohibit any flag that “represents a political viewpoint” from being displayed on government buildings and schools, the outlet reported.
A Threads post claims FIFA banned pride flags from the 2025 World Cup. It shows an image of what appears to be a rainbow armband and an image of two people holding up a pride flag.
The caption reads, “BREAKING: Pride Flags Permanently Prohibited at FIFA Club World Cup 2025 – ‘No More Woke Pride.'” It says “read more here,” which redirects to a site called Bored Panda and an article that has nothing to do with the claim.
The post is inaccurate, however. There are no credible news reports to corroborate the claim. (RELATED: Posts Claiming Elon Musk Banned Pride Content From X Are Based On Satire)
The claim was originally posted to SpaceXMania on Nov. 15, where it is labeled as satire. The site contains a disclaimer that reads, in part, “Please note that the article under the category ‘SATIRE’ are satirical in nature and are not meant to be taken seriously.” Check Your Fact has debunked SpaceXMania several times previously.
The photo of the armband used in the post references an event from 2022. Players were banned from wearing the armbands in Qatar as several captions from European countries planned to wear them, according to The Guardian.
Check Your Fact reached out to a FIFA spokesperson for comment.
