A post shared on Facebook claims Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was purportedly executed at Guantanamo Bay.

Verdict: False

The claim is false and originally stems from a December 11 article published on the satire site “Real Raw News.” A spokesperson for the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps denied the claim’s validity in an email to Check Your Fact.

Fact Check:

Mayorkas said the federal government has “deployed additional resources, personnel, technology” to address recent drone sightings in New Jersey, according to ABC News. Mayorkas also said that some of the sightings are drones and others are “manned aircraft” while speaking with George Stephanopoulos, the outlet reported.

The Facebook post claims Mayorkas was purportedly executed at Guantanamo Bay.

The claim is false and originally stems from a Dec. 11 article published on the satire site “Real Raw News.” A “Disclaimer” included on the site’s “About Us” page indicates its content is not meant to be taken literally. “Information on this website is for informational and educational and entertainment purposes. This website contains humor, parody, and satire. We have included this disclaimer for our protection, on the advice [of] legal counsel,” the disclaimer reads.

According to the December 11 article, Mayorkas purportedly became the second individual to face execution without a military tribunal following a change in leadership at Navy JAG and Office of Military Commissions. The article claims Mayorkas was allegedly guilty of treason for contradicting a previous testimony he gave about the state of the Southern Border as well as crimes purportedly committed by migrants who were let into the U.S. (RELATED: Did Robert F. The Dec. 11 article also appears to be a follow-up piece to a Nov. 15 article published by Real Raw News claiming Mayorkas had allegedly been arrested by U.S. Marines in Virginia. Check Your Fact previously debunked the claim.

Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find the claim referenced on Navy JAG’s website or its verified social media accounts. Neither the White House nor President Joe Biden has publicly commented on the claim. Mayorkas does not appear to have responded to the claim, either.

In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim.

Furthermore, Patricia Babb, a spokesperson for Navy JAG, denied the claim’s validity in an email to Check Your Fact.

“This is not true,” Babb said of the claim.
