A post shared on Facebook claims Tesla CEO Elon Musk and musician Taylor Swift are promoting StopWatt, devices intended to conserve electricity.

Verdict: False

There is no evidence for this claim. The image used in the post was most likely made by AI.

Fact Check:

Musk may face charges if he does not pay to settle charges after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) told him he must pay a fine involving his purchase of shares of Twitter in 2022,  according to CNN. The SEC threatened that Musk would “face charges on numerous counts” if Musk does not cooperate and subpoenaed his lawyer, the outlet reported.

A Facebook post purports Musk and Swift are working together to promote a device. The post share what appears to ne an image of Musk and Swift together, Musk appearing to hold one of the devices in his hand while Swift observes.

“After a legal victory, Tesla CEO (Elon Musk) and Taylor Swift toured the production lines of Stop Watt,” the caption reads. “They shed light on how this game-changing device is giving seniors financial relief while promoting a cleaner future, proving unstoppable against power companies’ resistance.”

StopWatt advertises itself as a device that “helps you reduce power consumption at the meter.”

This claim lacks evidence, however. There are no credible news reports to corroborate the claim. (RELATED: Did Taylor Swift Say Elon Musk Was ‘Radicalized By His Own Algorithm’?)

The image of Musk and Swift together appears as 94% likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content when entered content when put into Hive Moderation. Similarly, TrueMedia indicates that the photo has “substantial evidence of manipulation.”
