FACT CHECK: No, UnitedHealthcare Has Not Posted Its CEO Job Listing
An image shared on Facebook claims UnitedHealthcare has purportedly posted a job listing for its open CEO position.
Verdict: False
The claim is false as the job listing is fake. A spokesperson for UnitedHealthcare denied the posting’s authenticity in an email to Check Your Fact.
Fact Check:
Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old Maryland native, has been arrested and charged with murder in relation to the death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, according to The Washington Post. Mangione was found in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after he was recognized at a local McDonald’s, the outlet reported.
The Facebook image claims UnitedHealthcare has purportedly posted a job listing for its open CEO position.
According to the same image, the full-time CEO position is based in Minnetonka, Minnesota, and offers an annual salary of $300-400,000. The image also purports that over 100 people have already applied for the position, which is remote. The image appears to show a job posting shared via LinkedIn.
“CEO killed yesterday; job position already posted lol… look at the applicants lol. Stop sacrificing your time and family for companies that view you as a mere means to an end,” the image’s caption reads.
The claim is false. Check Your Fact did not find a job listing matching that of the purported image shared via LinkedIn. Likewise, at the time of writing, UnitedHealthcare does not appear to have posted a listing for its CEO job via its website.
In addition, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Dec. 9, Lead Stories debunked the claim. (RELATED: Did Elon Musk Defend CEOs After Murder Of Brian Thompson?)
Furthermore, UnitedHealthcare spokesperson Anthony Marusic told Check Your Fact via email that the purported job listing is “fake.”
“The LinkedIn post is fake. Someone created a duplicate and used that. It was never posted on LinkedIn,” Marusic explained.
Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was shot and killed on Dec. 4 in New York on his way to UnitedHealth Group’s annual investor conference, The Associated Press reported.
