FACT CHECK: Image Of Christmas Tree With Ukrainian Flags In Berlin, Germany Is From 2022, Not 2024

An image shared on X allegedly shows a recent picture of a Christmas tree decorated with Ukrainian flags displayed in Berlin, Germany.

Verdict: False

The photo is not recent, but instead was posted in 2022.

Fact Check:

After a meeting in France, President-elect Donald Trump has called for an end to the war in Ukraine, adding, “[Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness,” according to AP News. He has also said he is open to the idea of pulling the U.S. out of NATO, but has not revealed if he has spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin recently, the outlet reported.

An X image purports a Christmas tree in Berlin was recently decorated with small Ukrainian flags. The image shows a large Christmas tree in front of a McDonald’s.

“This is the Christmas tree at ‘Checkpoint Charlie’ in Berlin,” the post reads. “Germany is doomed!”

This photo is not recent, however. The image was originally posted to X and Reddit in December 2022. The captions on both posts indicate that the image was taken at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin. (RELATED: Did Pro-Palestine Protesters Burn A Christmas Tree In New York City?)

Check Your Fact has reached out to a spokesperson for the city of Berlin for comment.

This is not the first time misinformation involving Ukraine has spread online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that X owner Elon Musk banned the official X account for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
