A video shared on X claims to show Syrian Arab Army (SAA) paratroopers conducting jumps to fight Syrian rebels.

Verdict: Misleading

The video is from 2023 and shows training exercises, not the SAA dropping around Hama to fight Syrian rebels.

Fact Check:

Syrian rebels, fresh from taking Hama, have been pressing down on the city of Homs, with Kurdish forces taking over a key city in eastern Syria, according to Reuters. A senior Iranian official told the outlet that Iran was sending missiles and other equipment to the Syrian regime.

Social media users are claiming a video shows thatt the “25th” (presumably 25th Division) of the SAA was fighting the rebels and conducting jumps around said rebel forces.

“SAA 25th dropping down to dispatch goatf**kers to their final resting place in hell,” one user posted. (RELATED: Did British Prime Minister Keir Starmer Claim To Make Pork For His Jewish Wife?)

This claim is misleading. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the video is from Oct. 2023 and shows Syrian forces conducting drills with Russia, The video’s title reads, “Syrian special forces conduct parachute drills with Russian military aircraft.”

“Syrian special forces troops performed more than 1,500 parachute jumps over the Mediterranean Sea and the Aleppo and Latakia provinces as part of training drills conducted using Russian military aircraft, Russia’s defence ministry said on Thursday (October 5). Video footage published by the ministry showed groups of Syrian troops leaping out of Russian planes and helicopters, including what the ministry said was the Syrian Arab Army’s first mass landing from an IL-76 aircraft conducted at night,” reads part of the video description.

A base of the 25th Division was captured by rebels during the fighting in Hama, according to BBC News.
