FACT CHECK: No, Travis Kelce Did Not Announce He’s Leaving X
A post shared on Facebook claims Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce announced that he’s leaving social media platform X, calling it a “hate machine.”
Verdict: False
There is no evidence Kelce made such an announcement.
Fact Check:
X owner Elon Musk put at least $260 million into efforts to secure the presidential election win for President-elect Donald Trump, $238 million was put into the super PAC he founded, according to CNN. Musk was also the sole donor to a PAC named after Ruth Bader Ginsburg to help Trump’s message on abortion, the outlet reported.
A Facebook post claims Kelce has announced his departure from X. It shows a picture of Musk alongside an image of Kelce with his girlfriend, musician Taylor Swift.
“NFLTravis Kelce announced that he’s leaving Elon Musk’s ‘Hate Machine’ X app, Calling it a ‘Toxic waste dump’ after his Scathing and Hurtful comments about Taylor Swift,” the post reads.
This claim lacks evidence, however. There are no such announcements on Kelce’s X account. There are also no posts from Kelce referring to the platform as a “toxic waste dump.” Additionally, there are no credible news reports to corroborate the claim.
The claim was also debunked by PolitiFact. (RELATED: Did Travis Kelce Endorse Kamala Harris?)
Musk faced backlash on his platform after making a post suggesting he would impregnate Swift, according to Variety. “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life,” Musk posted.
