A post shared on social media purports that former Vice President Mike Pence was arrested and taken to Guantanamo Bay.

Verdict: False

The claim stems from a satire outlet.

Fact Check:

Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe said that the oversight on the building used by former President Donald Trump’s attempted assassin in Pennsylvania was a “failure,” as was communication,  Fox News reported. In a hearing at the House of Representatives, Rowe also said that changes have been made to the agency, according to the outlet.

A post on X, formerly known as Twitter, alleges that Pence was recently arrested. The post shared a photo of Pence behind a podium with his name on it.

The post reads, “MIKE PENCE WAS CAPTURED BY SPECIAL FORCES AND IS CURRENTLY IN GITMO… THE WHITE HATS CAPTURED MIKE PENCE ON NOVEMBER 29, 2024.”

The claim is inaccurate. There is no credible news report that Pence has been arrested. The claim stems from a satirical news outlet called Real Raw News. The article offers no evidence for this claim. The site has posted several fictitious stories about Pence being at GITMO.

The about section of the site features a parody disclaimer “This website contains humor, parody, and satire. (RELATED: No, Mike Pence Did Not Endorse The Harris-Walz Ticket In The 2024 Election)

Pence has expressed approval of Trump’s stance on trade with China, but also warned they “must not become our enemy,” Fox News reported. During the election, Pence withheld endorsing any candidate, according to AP News.

This is not the first time misinformation has circulated online. Check Your Fact recently debunked claims tapes of former President Barack Obama committing “abhorrent acts while high” were released.
