FACT CHECK: Did Trump’s Border Czar Pick Say ‘We Won’t Have To Press One For English’?

A post shared on social media purports that President-elect Donald Trump’s border czar pick said he will deport so many people that “we will not need to press one for English again.”

Verdict: False

The claim is inaccurate.

Fact Check:

Former Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz has withdrawn from consideration for attorney general, however a meeting with a new option for the position has already taken place, The New York Times reported. He stepped aside after allegations of sexual misconduct, however a new hopeful for the role, Pete Hegseth, also faces similar allegations.

A post shared on X, formerly known Twitter, alleges that Homan claimed, “BREAKING Tom Homan said that ‘He’s going to do his job so well that you’ll never have to press #1 for English again.’ Trump Dance, WWIII”

The claim is inaccurate. The video in the post does not include the quote. The video show Homan responding to being asked if there is a way to deport illegals without separating families. He responded saying, “Of course there is, families can be deported together.”  Furthermore, there is no such statement in the original video. (RELATED: Can Ron DeSantis Choose Who Fills Matt Gaetz’s Vacant Seat?)

There is no evidence of this comment on his authentic X account.

Homan has denied that he will seek to deport citizens and said that those in the country illegally “shouldn’t feel comfortable,” according to Newsweek.

This is not the first time misinformation surrounding Trump’s picks has circulated online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim Elon Musk said that Trump will do anything he tells him to.
