FACT CHECK: No, Mike Tyson Did Not Win Boxing Match Against Jake Paul
A post shared on Facebook claims boxer Mike Tyson won against influencer Jake Paul in a recent boxing match.
Verdict: False
This post was authored on Nov. 14 and the boxing match did not occur until the next day.
Fact Check:
Tyson, a well-known name in boxing history at 58 years old, faced off against 27-year-old Paul in Tyson’s first official fight in nearly 20 years, according to NPR. The match was shorter than the average fight, but the event as a whole received so many views that the site crashed, according to the outlet.
A Facebook post claims Tyson was the winner. The post allegedly shows images of Paul and Tyson throwing punches at each other in a boxing ring.
“Stunning Knockout: Mike Tyson Defeats Jake Paul in Just 50 Seconds with a Devastating K.O,” the post reads.
This claim is inaccurate, however. Judges unanimously ruled that Paul won the match over Tyson, according to NBC News. This brought Paul’s professional record to 11-1 and Tyson’s to 50-7, the outlet reported. (RELATED: Image Of Mike Tyson Posing With Palestinian Flag Is AI-Generated)
Paul’s shorts do not match up with the ones seen in the Facebook post’s images, which show him wearing white, orange and red, respectively. He wore silver shorts during the actual fight, which can be seen in a video posted to X by Netflix.
The claim and images are also debunked by the fact that the post was published on Nov. 14 and the fight actually occurred on Nov. 15, according to Netflix.
