A post made on X claims actor Robert De Niro is leaving the U.S. because of President-elect Donald Trump’s victory.

Verdict: False

There is no evidence to support this claim. The claim originated as satire.

Fact Check:

Social media users are claiming that De Niro is leaving the U.S. because of Trump’s 2024 election victory. One user wrote, “Robert De Niro is leaving the U.S. following Trump’s victory. I can’t imagine why…”

The claim is false. There is no evidence to show De Niro plans to leave the U.S. after Trump’s victory. (RELATED: Are Kathy Griffin And Jane Fonda Moving To Canada When Trump Is President?)

The claim appears to stem from a satirical story published online. In July, satirical website SpaceXMania published a story titled “Breaking: Robert De Niro Says He Will Leave the US if the 45th Returns to Office.” The article is categorized as “satire.”

The satire reads, “In a move that has sparked both applause and criticism, Hollywood legend Robert De Niro has vowed to leave the United States permanently if former President Donald Trump, the 45th president, is re-elected in the 2024 election.”

A description available on the SpaceXMania website reads “Our mission? To bring you the freshest fake news, some sassy analysis, and a good dose of satire, all rolled into one crazy concoction that orbits around Elon Musk and everything that’s lighting up the viral/trending charts.”

SpaceXMania told Check Your Fact in an email that the “respective post originated as Satire but it was stolen and posted without the disclaimers.”

Check Your Fact has reached out to De Niro for comment.
