On Oct. 1, Jimmy Carter became the first president in American history to turn 100, per NBC News. Two weeks later, on Oct. 15, the Associated Press reported that early voting began in the former president’s native Georgia.

Social media users are claiming to show Carter voting early. One user wrote that Carter “made it to the first day of Georgia early voting.” It also said that Carter’s “family declared he will vote for Harris.” Similar captions accompanying the same clip were posted to X and Facebook, with one calling it “voter fraud” and “elder abuse.”

These claims are false. The video is from earlier this month, when the former president attended a family gathering held for his 100th birthday. The footage was first shared to Facebook on Oct. 1 by CBS News, describing Carter as being at his birthday party “surrounded by family and friends in his backyard in Plains, Georgia.”

The outlet also reported at the time that Carter was brought outside via wheelchair to observe a military flyover, consisting of four fighter jets, which was initiated in his honor. However, captions indicating he would vote in favor of Democratic nominee Kamala Harris are accurate. The Carter Center confirmed to Reuters that the footage was from earlier this month and that he “voted by mail” last week. A screenshot from the same clip circulated on Oct. 4, similarly claiming that Carter had voted.

Check Your Fact debunked the claim, noting that mail-in ballots had not been distributed yet. The video claiming Carter was on his way to vote followed other false statements that the former president had passed away.
