Verdict: False

The claim is false. On Aug. 15, Trump held a press conference at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, where he discussed the economy, inflation, and rising grocery prices. However, both an article from The Associated Press and a video of the press conference shared by the outlet indicate Trump did not make the purported remark.

Fact Check:

Trump held a campaign rally in Asheboro, North Carolina on August 21, according to The Associated Press. During the outdoor rally, Trump spoke from behind bulletproof glass, the outlet reported.

The screenshot of the tweet shared via the Threads post claims Trump said cereal is now “at least $100 a pound” during a recent press conference. “You used to be able to get cereal for 20, 30 bucks a pound. Now it’s at least a hundred dollars a pound, probably. They debit it straight from your account when you show them your grocery ID,” the purported remark attributed to Trump reads.

The post, which does not provide a source to support its claim, has received 8,000 likes as of writing. The original tweet also has gone viral, amassing over 600,000 views. (RELATED: No, Donald Trump Did Not Pose Similarly To Hitler After Assassination Attempt)

The claim is false. On August 15, Trump held a press conference at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, where he discussed the economy, inflation, and rising grocery prices. However, both an article from The Associated Press and a video of the press conference shared by the outlet indicate Trump did not make the purported remark.

According to the article from The Associated Press, Trump “was flanked by popular grocery store items, including coffee, breakfast cereals and pastries,” during the press conference, where he “highlighted the cost of everything from food to car insurance to housing.”

Likewise, the purported remark can neither be found on Trump’s official website, his verified social media accounts, nor his TRUTH Social account. In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On August 20, USA Today reported the claim was false, citing a video of the press conference available via C-SPAN.

“Grocery prices have skyrocketed. Cereals are up 26%. Bread is up 24%,” Trump said during the press conference, according to the C-SPAN video, the outlet reported.

Check Your Fact has contacted a Trump spokesperson for comment.
