Verdict: False

The video dates back to 2022.

Fact Check:

American gymnast Simone Biles won gold in the women’s all-around final at 27-years-old, Fox News reported. She last achieved this in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, but this one makes her the oldest to do so in over 70 years.

A post shared on Instagram allegedly shows a recent Christian protest of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. The video shows a large crowd singing while holding lights.

The video’s text overlay reads, “Christians flood the streets of Paris after Olympics’ bizarre opening ceremony. July 28, 2024.”

The caption says, “This should have been the real opening. People coming together.”

The claim is inaccurate. The video dates back to august 2022 when it was posted on social media several times.

The video was labeled as part of the Catholic celebration of the Feast of the Assumption by the official X account from Sanctuary of Lourdes.

Paris Olympics organizers apologized for the offense caused by the opening ceremony, according to The Guardian(RELATED: Does This Map Depict Churches And Cathedrals That Have Caught Fire In France?)

This is not the first time the 2024 Olympics has been the center of misinformation online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim Lebron James was rejected from being the flag bearer during the event.
