Verdict: False

There is no evidence to suggest Harris made the purported remark. On July 30, Lead Stories reported the claim was false, and a parody of another quote falsely attributed to Harris which the outlet previously debunked.

Fact Check:

Harris will hold her first 2024 campaign rally with her running mate on August 6 in Philadelphia, according to Politico. Among the contenders to be Harris’ running mate are Democratic Govs. Josh Shapiro (Pennsylvania) and Andy Beshear (Kentucky), the outlet reported.

The Threads image, which has garnered over 600 likes as of writing, purports to show a quote about the 2024 Paris Olympics from Harris. “Today we celebrate the Olympics. Because Olympians are Olympic, & they are at the Olympics being Olympian, so it’s more important now than ever to support their Olympianism,” the quote attributed to Harris reads. The image does not include a source to support its claim.

The claim is false. An advanced search of Harris’ personal and government X accounts does not generate the purported remark. Likewise, the quote can neither be found on Harris’ website nor on her verified Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok accounts.

In addition, Harris has not made the purported remark during any of her recent public appearances, including at a July 25 speech at the American Federation of Teachers’ 88th National Convention, a July 27 political event in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, or a July 30 campaign rally in Atlanta, Georgia.

Check Your Fact also did not find any credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On July 30, Lead Stories reported the claim was false. According to Lead Stories, the Threads post is a parody of another quote falsely attributed to Harris that the outlet previously debunked.

“Today is today. And yesterday was today yesterday. Tomorrow will be today tomorrow. So live today so that future today will past today, as it is tomorrow,” the other false quote reads. (RELATED: Did Kamala Harris Make This Comment About Shuttering Veterans Affairs?)

Furthermore, Lead Stories contacted Harris’ spokesperson for comment on the claim regarding the false Olympics quote. When asked if Harris ever said the quote, Allen simply replied, “No.”

Check Your Fact has also contacted Allen for comment.
