The claim is true. Multiple sources, including the California Secretary of State’s campaign finances database, reveal Trump and his daughter, Ivanka Trump, both donated to Harris’ 2014 attorney general reelection campaign.

Harris has won the support of 2,668 delegates, which has helped her presumptive secure the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination, according to the Financial Times.

In the July 21 X post, which has been viewed over two million times as of writing, Moskowitz claimed Trump donated to Harris’ 2014 attorney general reelection campaign.

“[It] was a wise investment,” Moskowitz captioned the post, which features what appears to be a scanned copy of a check signed by Trump. The $5,000 check is dated September 2011 and indicates the funds are to be used to “Re-elect Attorney General Kamala D. Harris 2014.”

The claim is true. An advanced search of the California Secretary of State’s campaign finances database reveals Trump and his daughter, Ivanka Trump, both donated to Harris’ 2014 attorney general reelection campaign.

Trump donated $5,000 to Harris’ campaign on September 26, 2011 and made a second donation of $1,000 to the campaign on February 20, 2013. Likewise, Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump donated $2,000 to Harris’ campaign on June 3, 2014. The total amount of money Harris received from Trump and his daughter is $8,000.

Fox News reported in July 2019 that Trump and his daughter, Ivanka Trump, both signed sworn affidavits stating former New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman was the reason they had contributed to Harris’ 2014 attorney general reelection campaign.

According to Fox News, the affidavit was “part of an ethics complaint” Trump had made against Schneiderman in December 2013. At the time, Trump alleged Schneiderman had led him to believe his “investigation into Trump University was over when it was not.”

Trump said Schneiderman’s “persistent, unsolicited and unqualified reassurances that the investigation would never eventuate in a lawsuit, and my sincere belief that there was no wrongdoing on the part of [Trump University], I did not perceive any issue with trying to assist Mr. Schneiderman whenever I or other Trump Org. executives were able,” according to his sworn statement.

Trump also detailed Schneiderman’s role in his donation to Harris’ campaign.

“Mr. Schneiderman’s former transition committee leader asked my daughter Ivanka if she would arrange for me to make a contribution to a fundraising event sponsored by Mr. Schneiderman for newly elected California Attorney General Kamala Harris,” Trump said via the same sworn statement, according to Fox News.

“In response, I made a $5,000 contribution to Ms. Harris’ campaign—the highest level of sponsorship listed in the invitation—and Ivanka attended the event together with some of [the] Trump Org. ‘s other top executives,” he added.

In August 2020, The Sacramento Bee reported Harris had taken the $6,000 Trump gave her campaign and donated it to “a non-profit that advocates for civil and human rights for Central Americans” in 2015, citing her spokesperson Ian Sams. The outlet did not specify if Harris had chosen to keep the money she’d received from Ivanka Trump or if Harris had donated the money elsewhere. (RELATED: J.D. In August 2020, Trump’s campaign defended his donations to Harris’ 2014 attorney general reelection campaign after then-candidate Joe Biden announced he’d selected Harris as his running mate, according to the Daily Mail.

“Trump has ‘donated to candidates across all aisles,'” his campaign spokesperson Katrina Pierson said at the time, the outlet reported. “I will note that Kamala Harris is a Black woman [and] he donated to her campaign so I hope we can squash this racism argument now.”

Snopes also fact-checked the claim that Trump had donated money to Harris’ 2014 attorney general reelection campaign, labeling the claim as true in July 2024.

Harris became the attorney general of California in 2010, serving in the role until 2017, CBS News Sacramento reported.
