Verdict: False

The claim is false and originally stems from @HalfwayPost, an X account that is known for posting satirical content.

Fact Check:

During his RNC speech formally accepting the 2024 Republican nomination, former President Donald Trump paid tribute to Corey Comperatore, a firefighter who was killed during the shooting at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to CBS News. Trump brought Comperatore’s helmet and jacket on stage during his speech, the outlet reported.

The X post claims a Grindr executive said the 2024 RNC is “basically Grindr’s Super Bowl.” “BREAKING: An executive of the gay dating app Grindr says the Republican National Convention is ‘basically Grindr’s Super Bowl,'” the post reads. The post was made in reply to an earlier post from another X user indicating that the RNC has impacted restaurant and hotel operations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, according to local residents.

The claim is false and originally stems from @HalfwayPost, an X account that is known for posting satirical content. According to the account’s bio, it shares “halfway true comedy and satire.” The original post shared by @HalfwayPost has garnered over 50 million views as of writing.

Likewise, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. In fact, the opposite is true. On July 18, Snopes reported the claim was satirical. The outlet also reported that former New York Republican Rep. George Santos shared the claim via a video posted to his verified X account. (RELATED: Did Trump Enter The RNC To A Song By 50 Cent?)

Additionally, Grindr has neither referenced the claim on its website nor its verified social media accounts. The RNC also has not publicly commented on the claim.
